The Gwen Allard Adaptive Sports Center came alive December 4th and 5th when Windham Mountain opened for the 2010-11 skiing and riding season. ASF conducted training for 138 returning and new volunteers. ASF’s program opened on Sunday, December 5th with 23 instructors and eight participants.

“We happily welcome back the snow, students, volunteers and all the smiling faces that grace us. The wonderment and joy of winter fun has returned to us. After a questionable start date for our programs, the cold, snow, and volunteers all came together for our opening weekend,” said Greg Richards, ASF Equipment and Building Maintenance Manager.

“It is always exciting having new volunteers. We have a lot of college and high school students volunteering this year and their enthusiasm is fun to see,” said Pam Greene, ASF Program Director. “They’re excited, but a little overwhelmed and anxious to begin. On Sunday afternoon, they all went out on the mountain wearing their uniform jackets and felt like a part of the team.”

“We are looking forward to another spectacular winter season at ASF,” said Executive Director Cherisse Young. “It’s the combined effort and positive attitude of our talented volunteers, willing participants, and generous donors that make our foundation successful. We extend our gratitude and wish all of our students, families, volunteers and donors a very healthy and happy holiday season!
