The Adaptive Sports Foundation is proud to announce that it has been awarded $22,740 as part of the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation National Paralysis Resource Center High Impact Priority Quality of Life Grants and Direct Effect grants cycles.  This grant allows the ASF to purchase a SoloRider golf car and two Monique-1 mono skis.

“There are several components that go into these projects,” said Mark Bogosian, Director, Quality of Life Grants Program. “If we can provide programmatic and other financial supports, even in the short term with the Direct Effect grants, these organizations can now focus on executing their mission, leading to greater success, expansion, and sustainability.”  The Reeve Foundation funded a wide variety of projects from employment programs to accessible playground projects and adaptive sports programs.

The SoloRider golf car is designed to allow individuals with mobility issues to play the game of golf alongside able bodied golfers.  The SoloRider allows the individual to experience all aspects of the game of golf including the social and competitive experiences of playing in a foursome or in a tournament.  The ASF plans to use the SoloRider donated by the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation for its Warriors in Motion golf programs.  In partnership with Windham Mountain resort’s Windham Country Club, the ASF is also making the SoloRider available to anyone who wants to golf at Windham Country Club and would need the assistance the SoloRider provides.

“The Adaptive Sports Foundation is thrilled with the addition of the SoloRider Golf Car to our ever growing adaptive sports equipment inventory,” said Petra Davenport, Deputy Operations Director, ASF.  “We are also very happy to be able to share this generous gift from the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation with the community.”

In addition to the SoloRider, the Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation grant is also funding the purchase of two Monique-1 mono skis.  The mono skis feature a new design with a lower frame height designed to make first turns easier to accomplish for a for beginning skier.

“We are very grateful to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation for their support,” said Ray Curtis, Operations Director, ASF.  “The goals of Reeve Foundation’s quality of life grants and the ASF are perfectly aligned.  Both aim to improve the everyday lives of those living with mobility limiting conditions.  Being able to get outside and enjoy a game of golf or day of skiing with friends may not be a challenge for many.  However, for someone with limited mobility, it often seems impossible.  Thanks to the Christopher and Dana Reeve Foundation, the impossible has been made possible by providing funding to ASF to purchase a SoloRider Golf Car and two mono skis.”
